Darcy Tara McDiarmid

2018 Shakaat Artist-in-Residence
Darcy Tara (McDiarmid) is a nature artist from the crow clan of the Tr’ondek Hwech’in and Na-cho Nyak Dun First Nations.

Darcy paints in a bold expressionistic style using highly saturated fluid acrylics and ink. Recently, she has begun to incorporate gemstones and ancient items into her paintings such as mammoth fossil, copper, emerald, rubies, porcupine quills, abalone and kyanite crystals.

Darcy follows the ancient practice of her ancestors: sacred dreaming, and thus much of her work maintains an ethereal type quality with a touch of enchantment. Most of her paintings are based on dreams and meditation.   She paints mainly spirit animals and women in forests.

Darcy enjoys focusing her art on heritage, culture, conservation and the environments – causes all very important to her.   She believes in honouring her ancestors by bringing them and their regalia back, through her paintings.
